10 THINGS WE ALL SHOULD KNOW IN 2020

Even though we have recently turned the page into the 2020 chapter, with all the New Year resolutions and enticing promises, isn’t it louder the collective mantra “the World is getting crazier”? And what does this mean?

There are many reasons for us to embark in this year of 2020 with a clearer mind, a tranquil heart and the strength as our best ally. We are realizing that our old patterns don’t suit us anymore, the beliefs in false affirmations should be thrown away and the Ego that so negatively impact our lives need to be watered with the wisdom of love. If not, why would we dream big?

Kicking off 2020 is not only taking the lip into an epic year; it is the great opportunity for letting go what was and allowing freedom to take place RIGHT NOW.

In this way, I think in 2020 we should all know that:

1- BETTER TO CHOOSE A BICYCLE THAT TAKE US TO OUR DESTINATION THAN A FANCY CAR THAT CAN BREAK DOWN ALONG THE WAY

What I mean is: don’t complicate. In the end, we all get to the same destination, regardless on how we get there. So, sometimes it’s better if we are humble enough to choose the simple means because ambition can steal us time and trap us on the journey.

2- BETTER TO HAVE FEW SOLID RELATIONSHIPS THAN 50 SUPERFICIAL ‘FRIENDS’ WHO DON’T KNOW US AT ALL

To have a long list of contacts is an amazing thing, because with networking things get done easily but to prioritize those contacts over the real relationships is to threaten the great opportunity for being happy and emotionally healthy.

How could we live without those who laugh with us and at us, who know exactly what we like for breakfast and how we better like to drink our coffees? Life would be so tasteless. That’s why I truly recommend that we open ourselves to solid and long-lasting relationships.

3- 15 MINUTES A DAY ON THE INSTAGRAM FEED NEEDS TO GIVE PLACE TO 20 PAGES OF A VERY ENRICHING BOOK

It’s tough to recognize the truth, but we actually spend more time than we should scrolling down on the Instagram feed, to keep our minds distracted and to feed our egos. It is becoming part of our nature, we are victims of this technological era, many of us already have a neck deformation that show how stuck we are to the screen, which is why this third point is so important. Literature allow us to travel through other authors thoughts and visions and to embrace the silence.

4- PSYCHOTHERAPY, SPIRITUALITY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINES CAN’T MAKE US DROP THE NOTION THAT WE COMMAND OUR LIVES

We definitely need to be thankful to all the existent techniques out there that help us find the better versions of ourselves. But let’s not believe in all that we see and hear, as the major voice we need to pay attention to is our inner voice. Otherwise, we are being naive and silly.

5- IF THE GLOBAL POLICY BOTHER US BADLY, WE NEED TO BE THE PRESIDENTS OF OUR OWN LIVES

It is so common to criticize everything we hear and see daily being said and done by the protagonists of the political scene, but that is why this is a great opportunity to start from a micro perspective – to give the good example starting from our circles – as relatives, friends, professionals, artists and citizens.

6- IF CLOSE FRIENDS AND RELATIVES FREAK US OUT, WE NEED TO BE STRONG AND ACCEPT THAT THAT’S A PROJECTION OF OUR FLAWS ON THE OTHER

We perfectly know how tragic some of our strongest relationships become – family is often seen as our darkest shade but there are religions (Buddhism) stating we are the ones picking our own family, so all that we need is the courage to see that our problems start from inside of us.

7- WHY WOULD WE FOLLOW THE MIND WHEN OUR HEART IS ACTUALLY THE MAJOR LEADER?

This is what most yogis feel and say to open the practice: surrender the mind to the heart. And if we try to understand the meaning of this from the heart, why would we want to understand it mentally?

8- “I THINK, THEREFORE, I AM” SHOULD GIVE PLACE TO “I AM, THEREFORE, I THINK”

When Descartes stated that first we think and then we exist, he wasn’t predicting that we would dig so deeply into the notion that existence comes previous to thought, as the baby exists in his spontaneous mourning without labelling the moment as “I need more food”.

9- INSTEAD OF “I DON’T TRAVEL BECAUSE I DON’T HAVE THE MONEY TO DO SO” BE HONEST TO SAY “BEFORE TRAVELLING, I HAVE MANY OTHER PRIORITIES ON MY LIST”

My biggest and more sincere desire for 2020? That we can travel more. And remember my moto: “travelling is more than flying a ticket and fly somewhere. Travelling is a way of living, part of our personality, the approach characterized by an incessant need for seeing things from different perspectives”. Allow the exchange currency to be intention.

10- SMILING GENTLY INSTEAD OF BEING ANGRY ALL THE TIME IS THE MOST IMPORTANT YOGA ‘POSTURE’ OF ALL

Touching our back heads with the toe? Nope. The meaning is that we can attain a state of mental health, where balance, strength and serenity reign and where the relationship with ourselves and the world around is reflected by Love.

Well, if 70% of these points resonate with us, then looks like we are on the right way and in a good position to make this 2020 an epic, transformational and unforgettable year.
